Associating a component part with the position and other objects

Scroll

The feature is available only when working with an assembly model (*.a3d).

A constituent part may be linked by positional leader lines, components, and solids. These objects are highlighted in the graphic area when an item constituent is selected in the BOM panel. The number on the landing of the positional leader line, associated with the constituent part, is a reference to the Reference property of this constituent part.

A positional leader line may relate to several components or solids (they are selected during its creation). When a leader line is selected, all these objects are highlighted in the graphic area.

If a constituent part has a visual representation, i.e., corresponds to a solid or component, this object is automatically linked with the constituent part and cannot be separated from it. If a positional leader line is applied to this object, then it is also automatically associated with the constituent part and cannot be separated from it.

If a component does not have a visual representation, then by default (i.e. immediately after creation), it is not linked with any model object.

If required, you can link any component part to the position/component/body or cancel the previously established link. Snapping to model objects is also available for groups of similar components and for the individual constituent parts included in the group. In the first case, changes apply to all parts of the group, and in the second case — only to the selected component.

Step-by-step instructions

1.Select the required component (or group line) on the Product Composition Panel.

2.click Link to position/component on the Product composition panel.
The process of mating the component part with the model object starts.
The Parameters Toolbar displays the name of the constituent part and the section in which it is located, as well as the list of objects associated with it. Please note that the objects constituting the visual representation of the composite part, and the positions assigned to them in the list, are not displayed.

3.Specify the objects to link with the composite part: positional leader lines, components, bodies.
Objects can be specified both in the Tree and in the graphic area. When specifying an object belonging to a subassembly, the entire subassembly is selected. The names of the specified objects are displayed in the Structure list on the Parameters toolbar.

4.If you need to cancel the association of the component with the object, delete it from the list Structure.

5.Confirm the modification of the BOM item .
The process will be completed automatically.

If a positional leader line was associated with a constituent part, then an additional landing is added to it - with a reference to the value of the Position property of this constituent part. In the composite part without visual representation, thePosition property is not populated by default, therefore the corresponding landing is empty. The number on it will appear after you specify the value of this property, for example, by means of Entering in the cell of the Product composition panel.

An analog of the process described above is the process Editing geometry in a subordinate mode of operation with BOM objects. Due to that, they cannot be launched simultaneously.
