Curves and points of the grid for plotting a surface should be created in advance.

The curves making a mesh may be the following:

any 3D curves, including multisegment ones and curves having subordinated objects-curves,

edges,

sketches,

sketch lines.

For construction, you can only use curves consisting of a single contour.

Curves of one direction must be either all closed or all open.

Points may be any point objects.

To create a surface through a network of curves, use the Surface by grid of curves command .

Step-by-step instructions

1.Indicate in the Model Tree or in the graphic area the objects for U direction — curves or curves and points in the order of their sequence in the network. Specify the objects for V direction is needed.

The selected objects are displayed in the Curves list in the Direction U and/or Direction V elements group on the Parameters toolbar.

A phantom of the surface is displayed in the graphic area.

2.Close the surface if needed by enabling the respective setting: Close along U or Close along V. A surface may be closed in one or another direction if all the curves of this direction are closed.

3.If the space grid of curves produces unexpected splashes, bumps, or dents in the surface, you can smooth them out by enabling the Shape optimization option. When this option is enabled, an algorithm for constructing additional curves will be launched, and the shape of the surface changes in the problematic areas.

4.To check a surface for self–intersections, please enable the Self-intersection check setting. If any self–intersections are detected, a corresponding message will appear on the screen. More details on surface self-intersection...

5.If the new surface connects to any existing surface, you can set the condition of mating along borders. This border should be an explicitly set curve (that is, it should not be a point and in should not be determined automatically). The mating conditions are defined in the Matings section on the Parameter Panel. More details on mating of the surface...

6.Adjust the connection of the future surface points if necessary. For that, the Connection section is used; the following capabilities are available:

Select the option for the distribution of connected points along the curves. To do this, click the relevant button in the Section alignment:

By the parameter of the guides (default option),

Along the length of the guides.

Setting the connected points manually. To do this, click Add Chain to the right of the Chains (U)/(V) field, then specify the points to be connected.

7.You cat set the name of the surface by grid of curves and its display parameters using the controls in the Properties section on the Parameter Panel. Managing the color and optical properties of objects...

8.To complete the operation, click Create object .

The surface by grid of curves will be displayed in the graphic area; its icon .

9.To complete operation of the command, click Finish .
