KOMPAS-3D allows you to create the following conditional designations in the model:

designation of surface finish,

designation of the datum surface,

arbitrary leader line,

leader line for stamping designation,,

leader line for marking designation,

a leader line for reference number (only in assembly models),

geometric tolerance designation,

centerline.

Conventional symbols in a model offer the following properties.

Each designation is located in the plane called the designation plane. Designations always remain in the planes, i.e. they are rotated on rotation of the model. If a model is rotated so that the plane of designation becomes perpendicular to the plane of screen, then this designation is not displayed.

If the plane of designation is not perpendicular to the screen, then the designation is always displayed so that the text in it could be read from left to right.

Designations are linked to the objects specified during their creation. Owing to this link, each designation always belongs to a certain object(s) in the model. Several designations can refer to the same object. When you select a designation in the model (except for centerline), the objects to which it is associated are highlighted in the graphic area.

If, after you edit the model, the element used for designation disappears (for example, the edge to which the leader was made gets filleted), this designation remains at its former place. Therefore, to avoid the emergence of designations "hanging in space" in the model, it is recommended to create designations once the model has been fully defined.

In KOMPAS-3D, such default values of parameters of designations are set which are most frequently used in the design documentation. If necessary, you can change these values. Setting up the parameters of designations for the current document is performed in the dialog invoked by the SettingsParameters... — Current detailConventional Symbols command.
