General information on Creating instances

When working with a model, you can create dependent, dependent mirror, and independent instances.

By default, the model document contains only the model itself, which is considered the main version. This instance serves as the source for the first version created by the user. Subsequently, any version available in the model, except for the mirrored version, can be used to create new versions.

When creating a version, its name and the base part of its designation are inherited from the original version. Specify the base part of the designation and the name of the main version before creating all other versions of the model (see the section on Version Designation and Name).

The version number is automatically generated according to the setting and added to the version designation.

The created version, whether dependent or independent, inherits the geometry, design elements, variable set, and property values (including color and optical properties) from the original version.

Objects excluded from the calculation are inherited with the feature Excluded from the calculation.

The newly created instance automatically becomes the current one. It is available for editing.

Ways to create versions

When working with a model, the following methods are available for creating versions:

•Creating a single instance using the Create version process.

•The type of version being created (dependent, independent, mirrored) is specified while working within the process using the elements of the Parameter Panel.

Methods of starting the process and the result of its operation:

•In the Version Tree — click the Create version button in the Model Tree header.

•If the source run is not the current one, first select the row for that run in the Run Tree. In this case, you can use the  Create Run command from the context menu of the selected row.
If no version is selected, the current version is used as the source.
The added version will be displayed in the Version Tree.

•In the Structure Tree, right-click the root element and select Create version .
The starting point is the current model version (i.e., the version which objects are currently displayed in the Design Tree).
After the process is complete, the system returns to the Design Tree. The Tree now displays the objects of the newly created version, since it has become the current one.

•In the Main Menu, select the command Management — Create version .
If the source version is not the current one, first select the row for that version in the Versions Tree. If no version is selected, the current version is used as the source.
After the process is complete, a new version is added to the model's set of versions.

•On the Product Composition Panel in the Versions mode, select the Create version command from the context menu of the version column header (which contains the version number). This command is available in an assembly model that already contains at least one version.
The default version is the one from whose context menu the command was invoked.
The added version is displayed on the Product BOM Panel.

•Creating a list of versions in the dialog box Version control.
To open the dialog box, use the command Version control .

•Variants are added to the list using the buttons on the dialog box toolbar. Each button adds a specific type of version—dependent, independent, or mirrored. This creates a list of model versions.

•Using the list of instances of another model. Available in the dialog box Version control.
To start the process of importing the list of performances, click the button Read from a file with lines added... on the dialog's toolbar.
A list of versions from the selected file will be added to the model.

Creating versions in a model is not available if the model is a family template. To make the creation of versions possible cancel the use of the model as a template.
