Isoparametric curves

Scroll

In KOMPAS-3D it is possible to construct:

Isoparametric curve,

Isoparametric curve group on surface.

For more details on isoparametric curves and the theoretical surface of a face...

The isoparametric curves plotting commands are combined in a group. While executing a group command, you can switch to execution of another one using buttons of the Parameter Toolbar header.

If you’ve selected a face in the current command, it will stay selected when you switch to another command.

Isoparametric curve

The isoparametric curve is plotted on the theoretical surface of the specified face and goes through the specified point of this face. There are two ways to set the position of a point on the face:

set the U and V parameters of the point on the theoretical surface of the face,

define the point object lying on this theoretical surface and located inside its outline; you can use the following as the point object:

an object vertex (or a point in space).

vertex of the face edge.

The curve will follow the object when the position of the object is changed.

To plot an isoparametric curve, use the Isoparametric curve command.

Step-by-step instructions

1.Select the face to plot the curve in the graphic area. The name of the selected object is displayed in the Surface field on the Parameter Panel.

The following items appear on the selected face: the phantom of the face selection point and the phantoms if the U and V isoparametric curves passing through this point. The values of the parameters U and V in the face selection point are displayed in the Parameter U V, % fields on the Parameter Panel. The reference direction of the values is shown using the arrows from the start point U=0, V=0.

2.Specify the position of the point for the isoparametric curve to pass through, using one of the following methods.

Method 1.

In the Parameter U V, % field, enter the values of the U and V parameters in percent (from 0 to 100).

Method 2.

In the Design Tree or in the graphic area, select the object that determines the position of the curve. The name of the object is displayed in the Snap Point field.

3.Select the curve plotting direction using the Direction group of buttons:

By direction U

By direction V

4.You cat set the name, The color and Display parameters isoparametric curve. To do that, use the Properties section.

5.To complete the operation, click the Create an object .

The isoparametric curve will be displayed in the graphic area; its icon will be displayed in the Design Tree .

6.To complete operation of the command, click the Finish .

Tips

You can modify the position of the point on a face by dragging its defining point.

Isoparametric curve group on surface

You can plot a group of isoparametric curves on theoretical surface of the specified face. The number of the curves of each direction (U and V) in the group may be different.

The group of isoparametric curves is constructed by the Group of isoparametric curves on the surface command.

Step-by-step instructions

1.Select the face to plot the curves in the graphic area. The name of the selected object is displayed in the Surface field on the Parameter Panel.

On the selected face, the phantoms of the isoparametric curves of the directions U and V are displayed. The influence directions of the U and V parameters at the start point U=0, V=0 are shown by arrows. Directional curves U(V) are positioned with the same pitch of the V(U) parameter.

2.Set the required number of curves in each direction in the fields Number, U and Number, V on the Parameters Panel. The number you enter should be between 2 and 1000.

3.Please specify the way to create a group of curves: with border curves (the borders correspond to the boundaries of the theoretical surface of the face) or without border curves. To do that, use the Include borders into group setting.

4.You can select the result of plotting a group of curves using the Strew setting:

if this setting is disabled, then after the command is complete, the curves will be displayed in the Design Tree as the subordinate objects of the group,

if this setting is enabled, then after the command is complete, the curves won’t be combined into a group, each curve will be displayed in the Design Tree as a standalone object.

5.You cat set the name, The color and Display parameters curves of groups. To do that, use the Properties section.

6.To complete the operation, click Create an object button.

The isoparametric curves will appear in the graphic area, and in the Design Tree, the group of isoparametric curves with subordinate curve objects or a set of individual isoparametric curves (if the Explode option was enabled). The isoparametric curves of the direction V (splitting the face in the direction U) are placed first, and the isoparametric curves of the direction U (splitting the face in the direction U) are placed next.

7.To complete the operation of the command, click Finish button.
