Reference – a text associatively linked to some other object containing text. The object to which the reference is linked is called the reference source.
In using the same source, the contents of reference can be varied: the text of source, number of sheet on which it is located, etc.
Owing to the existence of an associative link between the reference and the source, references change automatically on change of the source.
For example, the marking sign may contain a reference to the number of item of technical specifications which shows the method and font of marking. On changing of the item number (as a result of deletion or adding items before it), the reference is updated. Owing to that, the designation will always contain the correct number of item of technical specifications.
In KOMPAS-3D it is possible to create links between text objects located in the same graphic document.
References can be included into the following text objects:
•technical specifications;
•text on drawing,
•table cells on drawing,
•captions in designations,
•cells of the title block.
Also, A link can be a property value. document or object.
The following objects can be the sources:
•detailing objects (datum designation, view arrow, reference number, etc.),
•text on drawing,
•view;
•item of technical specifications,
•variable,
•properties document or object,
•object number in a numbering group,
•an associative report (including a report on array with a table of modifiable variables), and an associative table of versions.
References are highlighted on the drawing with the color set at Setting up text elements. By default, valid references are displayed in dark blue color.
As long as a link between the reference and its source is retained, editing the contents of a reference is impossible: it always matches the text of source or the zone of its location. On deletion of the reference source, the link between it and the reference is broken. References with a broken link ("invalid references") are displayed in red color by default. Automatic recovery of the reference is possible only by undoing deletion of the source object using the Editor – Undo command. If deletion cannot be undone anymore, you will need to create a source object again and Edit link.
You can also Force delete link between the link and its source.

The reference remains valid if its source is not displayed on the screen. For example, a hidden projective designation or object inside a hidden view or layer may be the source of reference. |
The colors set at setup of text elements are applied only to display the references located in the current layer of a fragment or in the current layer of the current drawing view. The references which are in other visible views and layers are not selected. They are displayed in the same colors as the other objects of these views and layers. For printing captions containing the references, colors set at setup of the output are used.

As a result of creation of detailing objects in a drawing (view arrows, cut lines, leader element designations, nodes, and nodes in section) in it views are generated automatically, whose captions contain reference to respective detailing objects. In its turn, during creation and editing of specified detailing objects, it is possible to enable automatic addition of these object references to the sheet number and/or zone name where the respective view is located into the designation. |
