Step-by-step instructions to construct a mirrored array

Scroll

To construct a mirrored array, use the Mirrored array command.

Select source objects for construction of an array, specify construction parameters, check whether set values are correct using a phantom and complete the operation.

Source object selection

To construct a mirrored array you may use all objects except components.

Depending on object type, mirroring operation has following result:

for an operation, a surface, curve, point, auxiliary plane/axis – a new object of the same type as the original but mirror-symmetrical to it,

for a solid – a solid that has symmetry plane or a new solid that is mirror-symmetrical to the source solid.

Source objects are specified in the Design Tree or in the graphic region of a model.

There are dissimilarities in the procedures of array construction for objects of different types. Due to that array may not contain objects of any types simultaneously. By default the system defines objects’ type after you specify first of the objects – corresponding button will be pressed in the Type group. You may define objects’ type yourself by pressing the required button before specifying objects.

More about selecting objects being copied...

It is impossible to use for building a mirrored array arbitrary set of objects of different types.

The Mirrored Array command also does not let you obtain mirrored copies of components. To do this, use the Mirroring of Components.

After you choose objects being copied, a phantom of the array appears in the graphic region.

Symmetry plane selection

To select the plane along which mirroring of selected objects will be performed, activate the Plane field in the Array parameters section and select the required flat object in Design Tree or in the graphic region of the model. Such an object can be any flat face, a projection, or an auxiliary plane. Name of the selected object will be displayed in Plane field.

After specifying symmetry plane, a phantom of mirrored copies of selected objects appears in the graphic region.

Extra options for array construction

When constructing a mirrored array, following options are available.

Setting array name and instance surface properties instances using elements of the section Properties.

For the object type Operations — construction of a geometric array. To do this, use the Geometrical Array toggle switch in Array parameters section. Details...

For object type Solids or surfaces :

removing source objects of the array using Delete Source Objects toggle switch: if the toggle switch is in I (enabled) position, source objects are removed, and if the toggle switch is in 0 (disabled) position, they are retained,

when mirroring a solid – choosing operation result with buttons from Result group; this group is present on the Parameter Panel if construction is performed with retaining of source objects. Details...

Completing the operation

To complete creation of the array, press the Create Object .

If the operation results in a solid consisting of multiple parts, then after completing the operation, the program starts the process of modifying this set of parts. Select the parts to be retained (see section Selecting the parts to keep).

Each instance in array of operations inherits the application area of its source element. Details...

After performing the specified actions, mirrored copies of selected objects appear in the graphic area of the model, and the icon of mirrored array .

To complete operation of the command, click Finish .
