Creating a copy of geometric objects

Scroll

To copy geometric objects, use the Copy Objects command .

Step-by-step instructions

1.Select the source for objects being copied. To do so, in the Parameters Toolbar, set the Source switch to one of the following positions:

Current document: objects are copied from the current model.

Selected file: objects are copied from another model. For selecting the desired model, a dialog appears on the screen.
Specify in the dialog the model file that will be the source for selecting objects, and click the Open. On the Parameter Panel, the field Source File with the full name of the selected file will appear, and in the graphic area — Source model window.

2.Create a set of copied objects. To do this, select the method for generating the set using the Copy switch and specify the objects corresponding to the selected method.
The following options are possible:

Selected objects
Specify the required objects of the current model or of a model from the selected file. The names of objects will appear in the Objects field on the Parameters toolbar.

Collection
Select the collection of objects from the list Collection. This list is displayed on the Parameter Toolbar if the document selected for copying contains at least one collection.

After selecting objects using any of the above methods, phantoms of their copies appear in the graphic area of the current model. Arrows on phantoms indicate the direction of curves, edges, axes, and the direction of normals to faces, planes, and surfaces.

3.When copying some objects (e.g. curves, edges, faces, etc.), you can change the direction of the selected object to the opposite. To do this, click on the defining point of the arrow in the graphic area or select the object in the Objects field of the Parameter Panel and press the Change Direction button next to this field. The object, for which the direction has been changed, is marked with the icon .
If a collection of objects is selected, then changing the direction is performed simultaneously for all objects in the collection by pressing the Change Direction button next to the Collection field.

4.By default, the Parameter panel has the option Assemble the faces according to the original elements enabled. If required, you can disable this option, but we recommend keeping it enabled (the action of the option applies only to the copied faces; its state does not affect other objects).

With this option enabled, copying faces transfers information about surfaces to which these faces belong to the copy. The obtained object Copy will not contain copies of individual faces, but rather a copy of the part of the surface that includes these faces.

With this option disabled, information on where the faces belong is not transferred to the copy. The faces are copied separately.
For example, two faces of one surface and two faces of another surface were specified for copying. If the option is enabled, then copies of faces are grouped by surfaces, and in the Copying object there will be two elements: the first one with copies of faces of the first surface, and the second one with copies of faces of the second surface. If the option is disabled, the Copying object will include separate copies of the faces.

5.If necessary, you can select a coordinate system to place the copy relative to. For that, the Location group of elements is used. Details...

6.If you want the copy objects to be a mirror image of the original, enable the Mirror option. The selected objects will be mirrored relative to the XY plane of the coordinate system in which the copy is placed.

When copying objects of a model with a left-side coordinate system into a model with a right-sided and vice versa, the copied geometry is automatically reflected relative to the XY plane of the coordinate system in which the copy is placed. When Mirror option is enabled a repeated reflection of geometry is diplayed.

The coordinate systems included in the copy always have the same direction as the coordinate system of the model containing this copy, i.e. the left-side coordinate system becomes right-sided, and the right-sided coordinate system becomes left-sided. Mirror action option does not apply to the copied coordinate systems.

7.If you do not want the resulting copy to be changed automatically when source objects are changed in the source file, disable automatic updates of the copy. To do this, in the Parameters of updating section set the Update automatically to 0 (disabled). In this case the copy can be updates only with a special command.
To receive information about changes to the original objects, enable the option Follow the source (the presence of changes is shown in the Design Tree with an icon next to the copy's name).

8.If necessary, specify the name of the created copy in the section Properties.

9.To complete copying, click Create Object button .

The created copy of objects appears in the graphic area, and its icon and name in the Construction Tree.

When editing the copy, the Creation Options section with the Create with matching button is present on the Parameter Panel .

Use this button if the source objects of the copying operation are replaced by other objects. This will allow maintaining the associative link of the geometry, which is based on the copying operation, with its reference objects. More information about compatibility setup...
