Depending on what is specified as the sectioning object, the cutting is performed:

by a surface existing in the model,

by a surface obtained by extrusion of a sketch, or by a sketch plane.

To cut off a part of the model, do the following:

1.Run the Section command.

2.Specify the sectioning object in the graphic area or in the Design tree.:

Surface trimming — select the cutting surface. For this you can use:

coordinate plane or construction plane,

an imported surface or a surface constructed in a model,

face.

To ensure correct cutting by a non-flat surface, this surface must intersect the whole model.

Section by Sketch — select the profile sketch of the section surface.

For cutting by a surface of extrusion by sketch, set the Method toggle switch in the Main section of the Parameter Panel to the By contour position. The sketch must meet the following requirements:

Sketch objects should make up a single chain – the sketch contour.

The contour should fully intersect the projection of the model to the sketch’s plane.

For cutting by sketch plane, set the Method toggle switch to the By Plane position.

The name of the sectioning object is displayed in the Sectioning object field on the Parameter Panel.

The sectioning object can be selected prior to invoking a command.

3.A part of the model can be deleted from any side of the cutting border. In the graphic area, you specify the cutting direction with an arrow toward the part of the model which is being deleted. To change the clipping direction, click Change direction to the right of the Sectioning object field.

4.If you work with a model that contains multiple solids and/or components, you may need to specify the operation application area. The application area defines objects whose material will be deleted as a result of cutting off a part of the model. In the Application area section, specify the application area type (bodies, components or both components and solids), and select the objects intersection with which will be considered during the construction. More details about the operation application area...

5.If necessary, set the section name and the properties of its surface display using the controls located in the Properties section. More details on color and optical properties management...

6.To complete the operation, click Create Object .

7.If the operation results in a solid consisting of multiple parts, then after completing the operation, the program starts the process of modifying this set of parts. Keep the parts of the model you need. For more details on selecting model parts...

After confirming completion of the operation, the model will be trimmed and the corresponding icon appears in the Construction Tree.

8.To complete operation of the command, click Finish .
