Auto sorting of base items is performed only in those BOM sections in settings of which sorting is enabled and its rules are specified: columns by which sorting will be performed and the type of sorting in each of them.

To quickly enable or disable auto sorting in the current section, use the Auto Sorting button on the Section toolbar. If the button is pressed, then the auto sorting in the current section is enabled; if the button is depressed, then the sorting is disabled.

Disabling auto sorting applies to newly created items in the section and does not violate the order of already sorted items.

If auto sorting in a section is disabled, you can arrange its items in an arbitrary order by moving them up and down.

To move an item within a section, select it and run the Shift Item Up or Shift Item Down commands from the Edit menu or from the Objects toolbar.

Items can only be moved within a single BOM section, i. e. an item cannot be moved to another section as a result of a shift.

Such items as a common name and a blank item cannot be shifted under any conditions.

Auto sorting of auxiliary BOM items is not performed. They can be manually moved up and down even in the sections with auto sorting of base items enabled.

If an auxiliary item turns to be under the base item (immediately after creation or as a result of applying the shift command), a link between these items is generated. Due to this link, when you move the base item (for example, after sorting), the auxiliary item will follow it.

The link between the base and auxiliary items does not prevent the shift of the auxiliary item. If, as a result of a shift, the auxiliary item turns to be under a different base item, then it will be linked with this base item; auxiliary items located at the start of the section are not linked to any items.
