Current BOM settings dialog box |
Scroll |
This dialog appears on the screen after invoking BOM settings...
command.
It allows you to choose another style for the current BOM or, without changing the style, modify the BOM parameters (i.e. make them different from those set by the style).
The settings are grouped into sections, the list of which is located in the left part of the dialog. There is a search field located in the upper part of the dialog. Setting up search and all sections of specification settings are described in detail below.
•Settings sections:
• BOM
• Sections
• Versions
• Blocks of additional sections
Having completed the BOM settings setup, press the Apply button. To exit the dialog without saving changes made, press the Cancel button.
If there are incorrectly set parameters (for example, the starting position number is not entered), the respective control elements are highlighted in red and marked with the icon The presence of incorrect parameters does not interfere with working in the dialog, i.e., changing other parameters is possible; however, closing the dialog using the Apply button is impossible until all incorrect data is corrected. |
Search is carried out by names of customizable parameters (i.e. by option names, lists, etc.). Search is not performed by section names of settings, columns, and sections of the BOM, as well as by parameter values.
Step-by-step instructions
1.Specify whether the search should be performed in all settings sections or only in the current one by selecting the appropriate option from the list on the left side of the search field.
2.Enter the required symbols in the search field.
If the search result is not zero, the number of found parameters appears on the right side of the line.
3.To view the search result(s), click the mouse on the symbol
or
in the right part of the search bar.
4.In the dialog, the section containing the found parameter will be opened, and the desired characters in the parameter name will be highlighted.
The control elements of this section allow you to customize the BOM parameters as a whole.

Description |
Library |
Field displaying the full name of the detailing style library *.lyt, which contains the BOM style. To select another library, click the name of the field and specify the required file in the dialog that appears *.lyt. After that, the screen will display the the dialog, in which you need to specify a style from the selected library. The name of the specified style will appear in the corresponding dialog box. |
Style, |
Field Style contains the style name from the library *.lyt. The number assigned to this style in the library is shown in the help field to the right. If you need to change the BOM style, click on the field name Style. |
When you change the style, please note the following: •If the parameters of the current BOM have been changed compared to the style parameters, these changes will be lost: after selecting a new style, the parameters will conform to it, and when reverting to the previous style, the parameters will correspond to the original (and not the modified) parameters of that style. •If another style is chosen for a BOM that already contains items, then the presentation of the data stored in them in a new form will follow the determined rules. Some data may cease to display in the BOM sheet. |
Link with the source document |
This option controls the link between the BOM and its data source. If the option is enabled, changes relating to the BOM (adding/removing constituent parts, changing their quantities) are transferred to it from the attached document. Calculated position numbers are transferred from the BOM to the attached document. If the option is disabled, the described data transfer will not be performed. In this case, the document will still be attached to the BOM and the connection can be enabled at any time. |
This option allows you to enable or disable the automatic calculation of reference numbers – the assignment of new reference numbers to items after the numbering has been disturbed as a result of adding/deleting items or auto sorting after changing the textual part of the items. |
Enter the ref. number in this field that will have the first BOM object in the first section for which in the group. Settings is selected Set Positions in Section — Yes. The field is available when the Calculate positions option is enabled. |
Enable this option if you want the numbers of the drawing zones in which the positional leader lines of the items are located to be also updated during calculation of the BOM positions. If the drawing connected to the BOM was not included Division into zones, then after enabling the Calculate zones option and saving the BOM, it is automatically enabled. |
If during the specification configuration the options Calculate positions and Calculate zones are disabled, then the command Set Ref.Nos. Not available in it. |
Build bottom-up |
This option manages the order of the sections and items in them. If this option is enabled, the sections are arranged in the reverse order of the one specified in the BOM style, and the items sorting order also becomes "reverse". Such sequence is prescribed by certain STP when filling in the BOM located on the drawing. |
This option manages splitting of text into lines in the Note. If this option is enabled, each text element in the cells of the Note column occupies a separate row. Splitting the text of the note into elements depends on how the BOM item containing the note appeared — whether it was created manually or transferred from a document attached to the BOM. Details... |
Display number of sheets of the same format |
Enable this option in the column Note displayed the number of sheets of the same size (if the document connected to the BOM item is executed on several sheets). For example, the document includes three A4 sheets, two A3 sheets, and one A2 sheet. Note entry in the Note column with the option enabled: *) 3xA4, 2xA3, A2; with the option disabled: *) A4, A3, A2. |
The action of the option Display the number of sheets of the same format does not apply to BOMs attached to the BOM item. |
A reference field displaying the document type according to the style: Simple or Group. |
This field is only available when setting up Group BOMs. In this field you can specify the number of versions of the BOM product. For a document of type Group (Option A), the specified quantity determines the number of cells Quantity per version that will open when creating a BOM item. For a document of the Group (Option B) type, the specified number of versions may be less or greater than the number of columns of the NUMBER type formed during style setup. •If the specified number of versions is less than the columns of the NUMBER type, then the quantity information can be entered only in the first N of these columns, where N is the specified number of versions. Extra" columns will remain empty. •If the number of versions is greater than the number of columns of the NUMBER type, the data in the BOM will be automatically split into blocks — groups of rows containing information about the number of executions, which is equal to the number of columns of the QUANTITY type. |
If the BOM has no documents attached to it, you can set an arbitrary number of versions in it. If assemblies and/or drawings are attached to the BOM, the number of versions in it can only be greater than or equal to the greatest number of versions specified in these documents. The number of versions in the assembly is determined by the actual number of versions created in the model, and the number of versions in the drawing is set in the Edit Current BOM Description dialog. |
The control elements of this section allow you to customize the BOM sections.
The element |
Description |
List of sections. |
The list contains the names of sections of the BOM. The set of sections is determined by the BOM style. |
To the right of the section list, the general and individual parameters of the sections are displayed, grouped into categories: • General settings of sections |
Break Down into Sections |
The list allows you to enable/disable splitting the BOM into sections. |
List managing the direction of section sorting. •Yes — sections are arranged in the BOM in descending order of their ordinal numbers (set in the style of specification). •nan — sections are arranged in ascending order of their ordinal numbers. |
Show Section Titles |
List that controls the display of section headers. •Yes — section headers and empty rows around them are displayed in the BOM. •nan — section headers and their empty rows are not displayed. Items in the BOM table are placed in sequence, separated Reserved text lines, if their number in the sections is more than zero. The order of sorting items is preserved (including the mapping between items and different sections and subsections). |
List that controls the display of headers Blocks of Nested Sections. |
The buttons for configuring the appearance of section/block headers for nested sections (available if the display of section/block headers for nested sections is enabled): |
First line font, Font of the following lines |
By left edge, Centered, By right edge |
Form empty lines |
The display of headers within nested section blocks and the external appearance of these headers are governed by the settings made for section headers. |
Item font |
List for selection of font parameters for BOM items. •Take from the design. — the font of the BOM items will be as set in the BOM table (as part of the main label used in the selected formatting). •Font parameters — the font of items can be configured arbitrarily. After selecting this option, the font parameter settings dialog appears on the screen, and the Object Font list displays the Custom entry. |
Font |
If you need to change only the typeface while keeping the remaining font parameters unchanged, select the required line from this list. Available if the object's font is Custom. |
Section Name |
Reference field displaying the name of the customizable BOM section. |
Number of Reserved Lines in Section |
The field for entering a quantity reserved text lines Hose sleeve in the. |
List controlling permutation Item No.s In the configurable section. •Yes — objects in the section are created with a reference number; upon issuing the Assign positions command, the numbers are updated. •nan — items in the section are created without reference numbers and are not considered in the position calculations performed by the Set Ref.Nos. command. If filling in the Positions column in the section is not prohibited, then the reference numbers can be entered manually. If the list is unavailable, this means that filling of the field Position is disabled when Setting up columns in this section in BOM style. |
Enable Attaching Geometry in Section |
List that controls the possibility Attaching geometry to items configurable section. •Yes — geometric objects and positional leader lines can be associated with objects. •nan — only leader lines can be connected to objects. |
This setting is valid if the configured BOM placed on the drawing sheet. |
To place on a new sheet |
A list that manages the location of the custom section. •Yes — the section begins from a new sheet. •nan — the section starts at the first available line after the previous section. Please note that if the addition of empty strings before and after the section header is enabled, the top of the page will not have a string with the section header but an empty string. |
A list controlling the presence of the mark on objects in the section. Mark – text added prior to position number. Thus, when developing a BOM style for use in construction, it is possible to form sections corresponding to the elements of a building, and in each section, set the mark – the letter designation of the element. For example, the section Jumpers must have the PR mark. More details about marks/reference designations... •Yes — the section has a mark. When this option is selected, the field for entering the text of the mark becomes available — to the left of the list Marks. •nan — section has no designation. The value of the parameter Position in the section set does not affect the display of the mark. |
Independent reference numbering |
A list that allows to enable/disable independent numbering of positions in the customized section. It is available if the addition of Marks to position numbers is enabled in the section. •Yes — the numbering of positions in the section does not depend on the previous one. The first section object receives the number specified in the field Starting Ref.No. Tip parts in the BOM section of the dialog. •nan — the numbering of positions in the section continues the numbering of positions from the previous section. |
The list controls the display and the ability to edit document codes in a custom section. •Yes — working with document codes is available: the table displays the codes included in the designation of documents that are connected to the section objects; available when editing the text part of the section objects. Inserting codes and names; Dialog to input designation, invoked for the section object, contains the Code column. •nan — none of the specified features will be available in the section. |
List allowing to enable/disable sorting of objects inside the custom section. |
To enable/disable sorting and setting reference numbers, as well as set the number of reserve rows in the section and start it from a new sheet, it is not necessary to call the BOM settings dialog. You can change these parameters for any section directly while working with it, using the buttons on the panel. Section and Controls on the Parameters toolbar panel. |
Graph table for sorting |
Allows you to specify a list of graphs by which sorting of objects in the section is performed, and Sorting Type In each of them. In column Graph Name, graphs for sorting are specified, and in column Sorting Type, the sort type for each graph is set. To specify a column for sorting, click in the row of the table and, in the expanded list, select the required column. The sorting type for each column is indicated similarly. Objects within the section will be sorted by selected columns in the order in which they are listed in the table. Above the graph table are the buttons for controlling the rows of this table (available if sorting is enabled): |
The button is used to add a row to the graph table. |
The button is used to delete the selected row from the table of charts. It is not available if there is only one row in the table. |
Buttons for moving rows up and down in the table of graphs and thus changing the sorting order. |
Break Down into Subsections |
The list managing the division of objects inside the customized section into subsections. Subsections affect the sorting of objects within the section: the sorting is first done by subsections, with subsections arranged in the section in ascending order of their numbers. More details on the subsections... •Yes - division into subsections and corresponding sorting is performed. •nan — subsections are not created, i.e., items are sorted without taking subsection affiliation into account. Information about the assignment of an object in a section to a subsection with a specific number is not deleted when the subsections are disabled (if it was set). Thus, the subsequent activation of subdivisions will restore the order of objects. |
We do not recommend continuous numbering of subsections (1, 2, 3, 4...); instead, leave some reserved numbers (e.g. 5, 10, 15, 20...). This way you will be able to add another subsection in the middle of the section without affecting numbering of the existing subsections. |
Subsections table |
In the table, the existing subsections in the customized section and their sequence numbers are listed. Above the table of subsections are the buttons for managing subsections (available if the division into subsections is enabled): |
This button is used to create a new subsection. After pressing it, a new row is added to the table. Enter the subsection number and name. |
The button is used to delete the selected item in the subsection table. After that, you will not be able to select this subsection in the list when creating new items, but you can use its number (as well as any other number) as a subsection number. Deletion of the subsection will no affect the existing items: they are not deleted from the BOM and do not lose their subsection number, i.e. item sorting is not affected. |
Use blocks |
List controlling the possibility of use Blocks of Nested Sections Tip parts in the configurable section. •Yes — the blocks of nested sections can be set and then used in the BOM (they will be available in the section selection dialog). •nan — blocks of nested sections cannot be set and applied. |
Blocks of nested BOM sections |
The list of blocks of nested sections is formed when you configure the BOM style, i.e., if the list of blocks is empty, it means that for this section the blocks of nested sections were not created during its settings in BOM style. When you configure the current BOM, you can only enable or disable certain blocks. To do this, use the options next to the block names. Enabling this option means that the block will be available in the dialog for selecting a section. If all the created blocks should be available, enable the All option. In addition, you can set up the existing blocks. To configure a block, select it in the list and click the button |
Settings for displaying headers of blocks in nested sections are carried out in the group General settings of sections. |
The control elements of this section allow you to configure the filling of BOM for a product with more than one version, as well as set the rules for automatically generating designations of versions of BOM items and versions of the specified product.
The element |
Description |
An option that controls the linkage of version numbers of the product in the BOM with the version numbers of the product in the connected document. •If the option is enabled, numbers are transferred to the BOM from the linked document and cannot be edited in the BOM. When saving the BOM, the change of numbers in the connected document is transferred to the BOM. •When the option is disabled, the link between numbers is missing. Initially — right after the document is attached to the BOM — the execution numbers are taken from this document, but then they can be manually edited in the BOM. Changes in numbers made in the connected document will not be transferred to the BOM. If, after changing the version numbers in the BOM, you re-enable the option Performance numbers from the connected document, then the edited numbers will be replaced by the numbers from the connected document. |
Version blocks |
A group of controls for setting the display version blocks. It is available if the current BOM has a group type (the document type is displayed in the eponymous list in the section BOM). |
Place block on new sheet |
Enabling this option means that each block must begin on a new page. For fill type B group BOM When using this method of display, lines Var. Design. do not appear, and the numbers of each group of versions are placed in the header of the BOM. |
Insert dash before number |
This option is available for group BOM: type B and controls the automatic addition of a hyphen at the beginning of the version number. For example, if you enable it, the numbers of versions in the "header" of the BOM will appear as -01, -02, -03, and so on. |
Show Block Titles |
Set this toggle switch to the I (enabled) position to label theof the start) blocks of executions and empty rows around them are displayed in the BOM. If the toggle switch is in position 0 (disabled), then block names and their empty lines are not displayed. |
Buttons for configuring the appearance of version block headers (available if the display of block headers is on): |
First line font, Font of the following lines |
By left edge, Centered, By right edge |
Form empty lines |
Show versions not containing variable data |
This option is available for Group BOM – option A and controls the processing of versions in which the variable data is not used. •If the option is enabled, then for versions without variable data, blocks will be created containing the row with the word Absent (block header display must be enabled). If the variable data is not in any execution, the blocks will not be created, and a line with the text will be added to the end of the BOM Differences in versions by assembly drawing. Data strings are notes about the absence of variable data. •If the option is disabled, neither blocks for versions without variable data nor marks about the absence of variable data are created. |
Execution of objects |
This group of options manages the automatic generation of object designations when invoking the command. Add object versions. Objects created using this command are copies of the same BOM item; their text parts differ only in their suffixes (e.g., ABCG.125.567800, ABCG.125.567800-01, ABCG.125.567800-02, ABCG.125.567800-05, etc.). |
Full symbols |
If this option is selected, the object designations are displayed in full (as shown in the previous example). |
Only version numbers |
If this option is selected, only the designation of the object on the basis of which the remaining objects are created is shown in its entirety. Designations of automatically generated objects are displayed as a number (e.g., ABCG.125.567800, -01, -02, -05). |
If the option is enabled, reference number of the items that are versions are displayed in the BOM table; reference numbers are ascending. When the option is disabled, the reference numbers of the version items are not displayed in the table and are not ascending (i.e., they correspond to the reference number of the original object). |
The control elements of this section allow you to customize the blocks additional sections.

Block Name |
This reference field displays the title of the configurable block. The block header may contain special syntactic structures: \n – serves to transfer the text following it to a new line, #XXX# – allows you to associate a block header with KOMPAS-document; the number and type of characters between the "grids" does not matter. Details... |
Use in work |
A list that manages the application of a custom block in the BOM. •Yes — the block can be used (it will be available in the section selection dialog). •nan — the block cannot be applied; if this option is selected, the remaining block settings become unavailable. |
BOM Sections |
A list field for selecting sections that should be used in a custom block. Contains all sections defined in the BOM style. Mark the required sections, then click outside the list. The list will close, and the number of selected sections will be displayed in the field. The settings of the sections used in the blocks completely coincide with the settings of the corresponding regular sections. |
To place on a new sheet |
A list controlling the position of the parametrized block. •Yes — the block starts from a new sheet. •nan — the block starts on the first available line after the previous section/block. Please note that if the addition of empty strings before and after the block header is enabled, then at the top of the sheet there will be not a string with the block header, but an empty string. |
Marks |
The list that controls the presence of a mark in block objects. Mark – text added before the position number. More about marks/reference designations... •Yes — the block has a mark. When this option is selected, the field for entering the mark text becomes available — located to the left of the Marks list. •nan — the block has no mark. |
Independent reference numbering |
A list that allows to enable/disable independent numbering of positions in the configured block. It is available if the addition of Marks to position numbers is enabled in the block. •Yes — the numbering of positions in the block is independent of previous objects. The first section object of the block receives the number specified in the field Starting Ref.No. in the section BOM of the present dialog. •nan — numbering of items in the section continues the numbering of items from the previous section. If there is a section with independent numbering in the block, this setting is saved, i.e. the first item of this section will have the starting reference number. |
Independent numbering of zones |
A list that allows you to enable/disable independent numbering of zones in the document related to the block heading. The selection of a document for linking is done when editing the BOM. Details... •Yes — numbering of zones in the document related to the block header starts with 1. •nan — numbering of zones in the document associated with the block header continues the numbering of zones in the preceding document. The sequence is determined by the list documents attached to BOM. If zone calculation is disabled in the BOM, this setting is not applicable. |
