Creation of a Cosmetic Thread |

To create a cosmetic thread, use the Cosmetic Thread command
.
Step-by-step instructions
1.In the graphic area, specify a base object of a thread — a cylindrical or conical face. A phantom of the cosmetic thread will appear in the graphic area. The initial border of the thread and its parameters are automatically determined when you indicate the base object.
2.If you want to replace the initial border of a thread, click Initial Border field and specify in the graphic area or in the Design Tree a surface, a face, an edge or a flat object based on which a thread needs to be built.
3.If you want to change the thread parameters, in the Standard field select the required thread standard or the Non-Standard Thread line.
•for a standard thread, select the nominal diameter and pitch in the fields of the same name or in the dialog opened with the Reference
button to the right of theStandard field,
•for a non-standard thread, enter the rated diameter and pitch in the fields of the same name.
4.When you select a non-standard thread, the Parameter Panel displays the Auto Determination option.Enable the option if automatic determination of the thread diameter based on the dimensions of the object specified for building the thread is required.
Automatically calculated values of the diameter are displayed in the Diameter field. Set the value of the thread pitch.
5.Set the thread length by clicking the respective button in the Length group of elements on the Parameter Panel. The following methods are available.
For Specified Depth: the thread length is defined by the specified distance. Enter the thread length value in the Length field.
For Entire Depth: the thread length is automatically determined by the final border of the thread.
6.If you want to replace the auto determined final border of the thread, click Final Border field and then specify in the graphic area or in the Design Tree a surface, a face, an edge, or a flat object based on which you want to build a thread.
|
An edge of the face of the thread base object or an edge of a conical (surface of countersink, chamfer) or toroidal (fillet surface) face coaxial with it must be specified as the initial/final border of the thread. The edge which can be used is highlighted when hovering the mouse cursor at it. |
7.By default, the Fitting option is enabled on the Parameter Panel. This enables changing the geometry of the thread base object according to the selected rated thread diameter in cases when it is required. If the base object geometry should not be changed, disable the option. More details on fitting...
|
The Fitting option is not displayed on the Parameter Panel if the model is created in KOMPAS-3D version 14 SP1 or earlier. |
8.If the thread is left-hand, set the Thread Direction toggle switch to Left. In this case the letters LH will be added to the thread designation.
9.If necessary, set the name of the thread and its properties in the Properties section. More details on managing the color and optical properties...
10.click Create Object
button to complete the construction.
After you confirm execution of the operation, the graphic area will display the cosmetic thread. Its appearance depends on the draw variant selected during setup.
In the Design Tree, the name of the created object and the corresponding icon will appear. For a standard thread, its designation is specified to the right of the icon. If fitting was used during creation of the cosmetic thread, then its icon is displayed in the Model Tree as a subordinate object of the cosmetic thread.
11.To complete operation of the command, click Finish
.

Creation of a cosmetic standard conical thread is only possible if fitting is used. |
Tips
•The thread depth and the diameter (for a non-standard thread) can be set in the graphic area using defining points.
•To set linear parameters, you can use the commands of the geometrical calculator.
•You can assign tolerances to the values of the operation parameters expressed in linear values. To do this, run the Tolerance command located in the menu of the required parameter, or click the
icon displayed in the parameter field (the icon is displayed if a tolerance is assigned to the parameter value). More details on assigning tolerances...
