Changing the status of the sketch and its objects |

The status of the sketch objects and the sketch itself depends on the constraintsapplied to the objects. More details on sketch statuses...
You can change status of the sketch or its object by adding and removing constraints.
Step-by-step instructions
1.Start sketch editing.
The system will switch to the Sketch mode. In the graphics area of the model only the objects that precede the edited sketch in the Design Tree will remain. In other words, the model temporarily returns to the state in which it was at the time of creation of the edited sketch.
2.Analyze the sketch.
Pay attention to the color of objects in the sketch — objects are colored differently depending on whether they have degrees of freedom (see section Color indication of objects in the sketch). If it is required to see remaining degrees of freedom of objects, use the command Display degrees of freedom
.
View which constraints are applied to sketch objects — constraint icons are displayed on the screen in Constraint view mode
(the designations of constraints are provided in table). If displaying all constraints interferes with the work, you can disable the constraint display mode and view constraints only for selected objects (for this in the Configuration dialog, the Display restriction icons for selected objects option must be enabled. You can also preview constraints of the selected object using Object Constraints
.
Please note the presence in the sketch of Ambiguous constraints and blocked dimensions, especially if the sketch is marked with the symbol '!' — Sketch requiring attention.
3.Modify the set of constraints for the required objects by adding and deleting constraints (see sections Application of the and Viewing and deleting constraints). Set the missing dimensions or remove the excessive ones. This can change the status of the object as well as the status of the entire sketch. In this case, the symbol on the sketch mode icon
and in the sketch line in the Construction Tree changes, allowing you to monitor the change in the sketch status.
For example, when editing an undefined sketch, the sketch mode icon appears as
, and in the sketch line in the Design Tree, a '-' symbol is shown. After adding constraints, the objects of the sketch lost all degrees of freedom and the sketch became completely defined. Now the sketch mode icon appears as
, and in the Construction Tree, a (+) symbol is shown before the sketch name.

•If required, to make the undefined sketch defined, apply additional constraints to the objects and/or controlling dimensions so that objects do not have a single degree of freedom left (colors of underdefined objects correspond to the current style of rendering). •Ambiguous constraints for objects do not interfere with the work with the model. You can leave them in the sketch or delete them. •Sketch, marked with the symbol '!' — the sketch requiring attention contains an unreliable constraint system, leading to model errors. Edit the set of constraints and dimensions such that the sketch status changes. In doing so, pay attention to the constraints and dimensions of the orange color. |
4.Close the sketch mode. To do that, press the Create Sketch
button on the Quick Access Toolbar, or click the sketch mode icon
in the graphic area, or run the Create Sketch command from the context menu.
