Group of points by surface

Scroll

You can create a group of points lying on the surface. Faces of the surfaces and solids can be surfaces.

As a result, a group as a grid of points is created on the theoretical surface of the face. The grid points can be represented as vertices of a polyhedron approximating the initial surface by specified parameters. For more details on the parametric representation of the surface...

Use the Group of points by surface command for building a group of points lying on the surface.

Step-by-step instructions

1.Select a face to plot a group points on it. The name of the face will appear in the Surface field on the Parameter Panel. The following phantoms are displayed in the graphic area:

a phantom of the theoretical surface of the face; arrows show influence directions of the parameters U and V at the start point U=0, V=0;

a phantom of the point group with default parameters.

2.Select the Point plotting method on the edge, press the desired button of the Method group, and set the parameters for the selected method.

3.Using the option Allow for borders Specify if the boundaries of the selected face need to be considered when plotting a point group on it.

4.Select the result of plotting the group of points using the Strew option:

with the option disabled, after the command is completed, the points will be displayed in the Design Tree as objects subordinate to the group,

with the option enabled, after the command is completed, every point will be displayed in the Design Tree as a separate object.

5.Advanced plotting options.

You can select a coordinate system relative to which group points will be located. To do that, use the Coordinate System section. Details...

You can change the name, color and style of the point display. To do that, use the Properties section.

6.To complete the group plotting, click Create object .

The created points will appear in the graphic area, and in the Design Tree – the object Point Group with subordinate objects (points) or a set of individual points (if the option Scatter was enabled).

7.To complete operation of the command, click Finish .

Tips

You can use a geometrical calculator.

You can assign tolerances to the values of the operation parameters expressed in linear and angular values. To do this, you should call the Tolerance command, located in the menu of the required parameter, or click the icon , displayed in the parameter field (the icon is displayed if a tolerance is assigned to the parameter value).
