In the KOMPAS-3D system, there are two ways to change object parameters. You can select an object with the mouse and edit its parameters, or launch the object editing process and make changes in this process. For general information on editing objects using these methods, see the Editing objects. Specifics of changing parameters of objects in graphic documents is described below.

Changing parameters without launching the editing process

You can change parameters of individual objects and their groups without launching the editing process for those objects. The parameters being changed are displayed on the Parameter Panels. Depending on types of the selected objects, the following may be available for changing:

the layer where the object is located,

some parameters which are set on the Parameter Panel during creating or editing this object,

text embedded in the object,

text style, font parameters and paragraph properties,

the language attribute for spellchecking,

hyperlinks.

Such parameters of objects as layer, line style, text style etc., can be copied between objects (including objects of a model in a drawing), i.e. transferred from one object to another. Details...

The general procedure of changing parameters is described in the section Working with parameters of objects. Working in graphic documents has the following specifics.

To indicate objects, you can use the "By properties " command in the Select menu. It is used to invoke the dialog that allows to select objects by parameter set, include objects from selection by parameter set, and invert the selection as well. Details...

When working with a drawing, you can specify objects of some types in the Design tree of the drawing. They include:

graphic macro-elements, fragment and image inserts from views of other drawings;

models the drawing is created by.

When you change values of parameters, you need to take into account their specifics and the type of the selected objects.

The parameters which are values of lengths (segment length, radius of a circle, etc.) and coordinates of points are displayed with the current units of measurement of lengths taken into account.

The availability of some parameters is determined by values set for other parameters. For example, when you work with hatching, the Band Width and Position hatch with respect to contour parameter values are available for changing only if the hatching filling type is Band.

Change of parameter Designation is not available for view arrows, leader elements, section / cut lines, and bases if it was enabled during their creation or editing. auto-sorting of letters.

The Object layer parameter, as well as parameters which are coordinate and angle values, are available for objects belonging to one view.

Coordinate and angle values are measured in the coordinate system of the view which contains the selected objects, or in its current local coordinate system (if it exists) – even if the view to which the selected objects belong is not the current view at this time.

The Language parameter is available, if a text or a table is selected.

The Hyperlink parameter is available, if one object is selected, or if all the selected objects contain the same hyperlinks, or if no one of the selected objects contains a hyperlink.

Parameters by which a report (Designation, Name, Mass and some others), are available for macro-elements, fragment and view insertions from other drawings.

Library macro-elements may have special parameters if this is provided by the library. For example, an image of a hole created using the Service Tools library, has such parameters as View (side/top), Axis (present/none), Thread (standard/no-standard/none), Diameter etc.

Displaying of special macro-element parameters in the Parameter Panel depends on settings (see section Library Macro-element Editing).

Examples of changing parameters in graphic documents

Changing parameters with launching the editing process

The object editing process is launched using the following methods: by double-clicking the object; for a selected object – using the Edit command, the key  <Enter> or  <Spactbar> (when pressing the key, the cursor must not be over the object). During editing in Parameter Panels The same controls are displayed as when creating the object.

There are object for which you can change only some parameters, and not all of them. Editing such an object launches not the original command but the command which contains the parameters being edited. For example, you used the Circle tangent to curve command to plot a circle in a graphic document. You can change the center position of the circle and its size but you cannot specify another tangency object. That’s why when you edit the circle, another command is launched, Circle.

Sometimes you may need to edit only the text included in an object – a dimension text, a brace text, a surface finish designation text, etc. In such cases, it is convenient to launch caption editing immediately (without launching the object editing process). You can do it by double clicking the caption text (itself, not the lines or points composing the object).
