Plotting a conic section surface |
Scroll |
The general principles of creating a conic surface are described in the Conic section surface: an overview.
To plot the surface, use the Surface of the conical section command
.
Step-by-step instructions
1.Select objects that will be used as guides. These objects can be:
•spatial curve,
•broken line or its segment,
•edge,
•Sketch line with Primary style or section of this line obtained as a result of intersection with other lines with Primary style,
•a chain of the above objects in any combination (objects are specified in their junction order).
The names of the objects selected as guides are displayed in the Guide 1 and Guide 2 fields on the Parameter Panel.

After you set the guiding objects in the graphic area a phantom of the surface constructed by default will appear in the graphic area.
2.Define the parameters for the section triangle that the conic curve fits into. To do this, use controls of the Triangle group, located in the Section section. More details on defining section triangle parameters...
3.Set the shape of the conical curve. To do this, use elements of the Conical section curve group, located in the Section section. More details on setting the shape of the conical section curve...
4.Set the section motion parameters. For this purpose, the elements of the Section Movement section are used. More details on setting the section move parameters...
5.If you need to check a surface for self-intersections, please enable the option Self-intersection check, located in the section Section Movement. If self-intersections are detected, a warning message will appear on the screen, and the plotted surface will be marked in the Design Tree as an error. More details on surface self-intersection...
6.If required, you can set the name of the conic section surface and its display parameters using the controls in the Properties section of the Parameters Panel.
Management of the color and optical properties of objects...
7.To complete the build of the conical section, click Create object
.
The created surface will appear in the graphic area, and the operation with the respective icon
.
To complete operation of the command, click Finish
.
•Parameters of the section can be changed in the graphical area of the model using defining points.
•You can set linear and angular parameters using the geometrical calculator.
•You may assign tolerances, specified in linear or angular units, to operation parameter values. To do this, invoke the Tolerance command located in the menu of the required parameter, or click the icon
displayed in the parameter field (the icon is displayed if a tolerance is assigned to the parameter value). More details on assigning tolerance...
