We recommend the following procedure for working with versions.

1.Create a new model. This model is the main version.

2.Configure the basic designation and the name of the main version (see section Version designation and name). This designation and name will be assigned to each version created in the model.

Numbers of versions created in the model are generated automatically according to the setting. If the default numbering options do not meet the requirements of your company edit them before creating any versions. To learn about settings of versions numbering, see section New version numbers.

3.In the main version create all objects and variables to be exported to other model versions.

4.Create the desired model versions (see section Version creation methods).

If required, you can change the properties of the created version (see section Editing version properties) or its position in the versions list (see section Changing the version position in the list of versions).

5.Edit the version objects that should be different from the main version objects. If required, you can create new objects in versions or delete existing ones. Working with objects of dependent and independent versions has certain differences (see section Version objects: creating, editing and deleting).

Please note that in the graphic area of the model and in the model Design Tree objects of the current version are displayed. To edit the required version, you need to make it current (see section Selecting the current version).

6.Use variables to change the geometry of dependent versions (see section Using variables in versions).

7.Edit the properties of the versions that should differ from the properties of the main version (see section Editing version properties).
When working with properties, note the features of transferring property changes, as described in section Notes on transferring property changes between versions.

You can paste the desired model version in another document (for example, in an assembly as a component); form an associative view in the drawing containing a projection of a specific model version; create a BOM for the model with versions; create a table of model versions in a graphic or text document.

The sequence of creating versions and their order in the version tree may be arbitrary. This does not affect their order in the BOM and in the table of versions.
