A product (in mechanical engineering) is any item or set of production items to be manufactured at an enterprise. A product can be a machine, its assembled elements and even a separate part, depending on what is the product of the final production stage.

Constituent part of a product is a product that performs certain functions as part of another product.

Thus, the assembly model is a product, and the assembly components and solids are the constituent parts of the product.

A component (subassembly, part, stock product) or solid is a visual representation of a constituent part. In addition to the visual representation, a component has certain properties: Designation, Name, Mass, etc. Constituent parts may have no visual representation, i.e. being just a set of properties.

To manage the product composition, use the special Product BOM. With the help of this panel the user can:

View the current values of the product properties and its constituent parts.

Edit property values products and its constituent parts. Available Bulk change of properties, i.e., the simultaneous change of properties of the same constituent parts.

Transfer changed property values to source files of the constituent parts..

Complement the product with constituent parts with no visual representation and stock parts.

Manage the documents connected to a product and its constituents..

Bind components with position designations and other objects.

Manage the inclusion of the constituent parts into the BOM of the current style or into the product composition (i.e., into the BOMs of all styles).

Delete constituent parts..

The BOM panel can be used both when working with 3D models and when working with graphic documents.

In this case, in the assemblies (*.a3d), all listed actions are available (they are described in detail further), whereas in the parts (*.m3d), the panel only allows Change properties the product, i.e. the part itself, and its part-workpieces (if any), manage documents, and also Delete Blanks from parts.

In the drawings (*.cdw), the Product BOM panel is used to view and set the properties of the product and its constituent parts, but the available capabilities are limited compared to working in an assembly model. In an associative drawing, you can also view the properties of the constituent parts of the assembly projected in the drawing on the panel. In the fragment (*.frw), the panel allows you to control properties of the fragment itself. Details about using the Product BOM when working with graphic documents are provided in the section. Composition of a product in a graphic document.
