Constructing a Rib |
Scroll |
To build a rib, use the Rib
command.
Step-by-step instructions
1.Specify a sketch that defines the contour of the external edge of the rib:
•if the sketch is already constructed, specify it in the graphic area or in the Design Tree,
•If there is no sketch, build it by clicking Create Sketch
to the right of the Rib Contour field. This will start sketch placement process, and then the system will switch to the sketch mode for creating geometry. Perform the steps necessary to build, and complete the sketch mode. The name of the sketch will be displayed in the Rib contour field on the Parameters toolbar.
|
You can edit the sketch by clicking Edit in the left part of the Rib contour field. |
2.If the model contains multiple solids, select one to which the created rib will be added. To do that, specify the solid in the graphic area or select an object belonging to it in the Design tree.
|
The most convenient way is to specify the face (or one of the faces) in the graphic area which will be directly adjacent to the rib being created. |
3.Select the rib position: parallel or perpendicular to the sketch plane. To learn more, see Rib orientation.
4.The direction of rib generation (specified with an arrow on the phantom) can be reversed by clicking the Reverse direction
on the Parameters panel.
5.Set the rib thickness using a group of elements in the Thickness Parameter Panel. The Symmetric Thickness toggle switch controls how a material layer is added and its thickness. The position I (enabled) sets the total rib thickness, and in the position 0 (disabled), the thickness is specified for each side of the edge relative to the sketch line. Thickness parameters and the order of their setting are similar to those described for Thin-walled element.
6.Set the slope of faces, for more details see Slope of rib faces.
7.If necessary, set the rib name and the properties of its surface display using the controls located in the section Properties. To learn more, see Control of the color and optical properties of objects.
8.To complete the operation, click Create Object
.
After confirming completion of the operation, the rib appears in the model and the corresponding icon
.
9.To complete operation of the command, click Finish
.
Tips
•The values of the slope angle and the wall thickness can be set in the graphics area – using characteristic points (for characteristic points, see Defining Points of Objects).
•You can set linear and angular parameters using the geometrical calculator.
•You may assign tolerances, specified in linear or angular units, to operation parameter values. To do this, invoke the Tolerance command in the menu of the required parameter, or click the
icon displayed in the parameter field (the icon is displayed if a tolerance is assigned to the parameter value). More details on assigning tolerance...
