To calculate center of mass properties of an existing model (part or assembly), use the CMP Properties command.

The CMP are calculated in the absolute coordinate system of the model.

After running the command, brief information will be displayed in the Information window In accordance with the current description the following brief information will be displayed:

surface area of the model,

volume of the model,

weight of the model,

center of gravity coordinates in the absolute coordinate system of the model.

Deactivate the Brief option on the Parameter Panel for more information. The following data will be added to the Information window:

axial moments of inertia (in absolute, central, and main central coordinate systems),

products of inertia (in absolute and central coordinate systems),

direction principal axes of inertia.

If the center of gravity coordinates If models are entered manually by the user, they are not taken into account in the calculation of moments of inertia in the absolute coordinate system. The calculation is made based on the calculated coordinates.

The Display main central CS option on the Parameter Panel controls the display of the center of gravity of the model. When this option is enabled, a phantom of the main central coordinate system is displayed on the screen. The axes of this coordinate system are marked as J1, J2 and J3 in the descending order of the moment of inertia about the axis.

To create a point in the center of gravity, click Create point in the center of gravity . A point named Point at CM will be created in the model.

Upon subsequent editing of the model, the position of the previously created Point at CM will not change. To create a new point corresponding to the actual center of gravity, call the CMP Properties command once again.

You can set the accuracy of the calculation results display, the units of measurement for length and mass using the controls of the Parameter Panel. Details...

By default, the calculations use the density values of materials of solids and parts.

The calculations use the density values of materials of solids and parts specified in KOMPAS-3D.

If required, you can set the following parameters for the current model and its components:

for the whole model – density or mass, and if necessary the center of gravity coordinates and/or moments of inertia,

for solids — density,

for components – density (applied to solids) or mass, and if necessary the center of gravity coordinates and/or moments of inertia.

These parameters listed above are defined when configuring the CMP of objects.

To complete the command, click Finish on the Parameters panel or close the Information window.
