Building a Bend

Scroll

A bend along the edge of the sheet part is built using the Bend command.

After you run the command, specify the bend parameters, check the correctness of the specified values using a phantom and complete the operation.

The set of controls on the Parameter Panel depends on the way you build the bend — by one or multiple edges.

Edge

Specify the straight-line edge of the sheet part (or multiple edges) along which the bend should be located. The names of the selected edges are displayed in the Ribs field on the Parameter Panel. A phantom of the bend is displayed in the graphic area.

Bend width

When you create a bend by multiple edges, the width of each bend is equal to the length of the respective edge.

If you create a bend by one edge, you can set the bend width. Select a method for setting the width by clicking the required button in the Width Setting group. Fields for entering the bend width or its indentations from the ends of the edge appear on the Parameter Panel depending on the selected method.

Tips...

Bend Extension

The bend extension parameters are set using the Bend Extension group of elements.

You can define the length of bend extensions in various ways. Select a method by clicking the required button in the Tracing mode group and set the parameter for the selected method.

If you create a bend by one edge, the lengths of sides of the bend extension can be set separately. To do this, set the By Two Sides toggle switch to I (enabled). The second group of elements Bend Extension will appear on the Parameter Panel. Set the parameters for the second side of the bend extension in this group.

Tips...

Angle and Radius

The arrow on the phantom shows the angle calculation direction.

If necessary, the angle calculation direction can be reversed by clicking the Change Direction button to the right of the Direction element.

The bend angle and radius parameters are set in the Angle and Radius group of elements:

select a method for setting the bend angleby clicking the required button in the Setting Angle group and enter the value in the Angle field,

select a method for setting the bend radiusby clicking the required button in the Setting Radius group and enter the value in the Radius field.

Tips...

Bend Placement

In the Bend Placement group of elements, select a method for placing a bend in the plane of the base face by clicking the required button in the Method group.

Tips...

Flat Pattern

Determination of the bend flat pattern length is configured in the Flat Pattern section.

Select a method for determining the flat pattern length in the Length Determination Method list and specify the parameter for the selected method.

Lateral Sides

Parameters of the lateral sides of the bend and its extension are set in the Lateral Sides section. The section is not displayed on the Parameter Panel if you build a bend with corner capping.

There are two ways to manage the parameters of the lateral sides:

setting the angle on the bend and/or the slope of lateral sides of the bend extension,

changing the bend extension width.

The required option for every lateral side is selected using the Method groups of buttons located in the Left Lateral Side and Right Lateral Side groups of elements.

Tips...

Cap Corners

The corner capping parameters are configured in the Cap Corners section. The section is displayed on the Parameter Panel if you build a bend by multiple edges.

The following types of capping are available:

Cap Adjacent Corners is available if at least two edges among the edges specified for building are joined by a vertex or an arc-shaped edge.

Cap in the Start and Cap in the End are available if you build a bend by an open chain of edges and/or by separate edges.

To configure capping, set the relevant toggle switch to I (enabled) and specify the capping parameters.

Relief

Parameters of corner relief and bend relief are configured in the Release section.

To create a bend relief, set the Bend release toggle switch to I (enabled) and specify the relief parameters.

To apply corner relief, set the Release angle toggle switch to I (enabled). Select a corner relief method by clicking the required button in the Method group.

Bend Properties

You can set the name of the bend and display properties of its surface using the controls located in the Properties section.

Completing the Operation

To complete the build, click Create Object button.

After completing the above steps, the bend(s) will appear in the sheet part, and its icon will appear in the Design Tree.

All bends of the created element are also displayed in the Design Tree. If necessary, you can edit any bend.

To complete operation of the command, click Finish .

Tips

You can set the design direction, angle, radius and other parameters of the bend in the graphic area using defining points.

To set linear and angular parameters of the bend, you can use commands of the geometrical calculator.

You can change the default values of the bend parameters in the Sheet Solid Properties dialog.

You can assign tolerances to operation parameter values specified in linear or angular units. To do this, run the Tolerance command located in the menu of the required parameter, or click the icon displayed in the parameter field (the icon is displayed if a tolerance is assigned to the parameter value).
